Ghost Anger Stream (鬼怒坑)

Difficulty:

Last Visit: Spring 2001

NT West

Trip Description

This is a relatively short stream. Almost two-third of the stream is flat rocky land. The rocks are small and easy to climb. You can hardly find any big pools in the first half of the stream. Almost the entire stream is exposed and there is no big trees and scrubs covering the stream. But once you pass the flat land and suddenly enter into a deep valley in the last stage of the stream, you will see the "real anger of the ghost."

Location 1: Altitude 110M

The entrance is easy to be located. You can walk through a paved path from Tsing Lung Tau (青龍頭) at Yuen Tun Valley (圓墩村), and you will walk beneath the Tuen Mun Highway and then reach the Tai Lam Country Park. Walk beside the Sham seng Settlement Basin and the dam of it, you can find a very wide catchwater.

Location 2: Altitude 120M

You may choose to walk a few step ahead and go into the stream later. You are advised to go into the stream at JK966770 where you can start going in without wetting your feet. The stream here is quite wide and on both side, you can find some flat lands on both side of the stream in dry season.

Location 3: Altitude 130M

At this point, you can find the first large pool. The water is clear but not deep enough for swimming purpose. After the pool, you will walk for a long rock road leading to a big cliff.

Location 4: Altitude 140M

You may feel a little bit disappointing as you walk along, for almost one-third of the journey relatively low-angled slopes or simply flat rocky roads. There is no fast running water or deep pool either. The stream turns left here suddenly and you will shocked by this ghost anger valley in front of you.

Location 5: Altitude 185M

You may feel a little bit disappointing as you walk along, for almost one-third of the journey relatively low-angled slopes or simply flat rocky roads. There is no fast running water or deep pool either. The stream turns left here suddenly and you will be shocked by this ghost anger valley in front of you.

Location 6: Altitude 195M

This is the critical point of the ghost. You must overcome the "anger" by relying on a rope (not totally reliable though). This is the only way. The cliff is over 50 degree and it may be slippery when water runs down. There is no big foot hole either. Remain claim and proceed slowly. Novice must not try the big wall during rainy season.

Location 7: Altitude 205M

After you go over the big walk, you will hit the walking path. You are at Tsing Fai Tong (清快塘) at JK972779. Turn left to go back to the reservoir or turn right to walk along the catchwater back to Tsuen Wan. In the photo, you can see another group of hikers are having their rest and lunch below the cliff.
